5. Vehicle Loading Procedures

PRODUCT LOADING

 5.1       Product Loading (General)

CHECK LEGAL WEIGHT YOUR TRUCK CAN CARRY

(Your depot manager will have an up to date spreadsheet)

Example:

FUEL REQUIRED TO LOAD

10000 litres of Kero.

7500 litres of gas oil.

CURRENT WEIGHT CONVERSION (LITRES TO ONE TONNE)

Gas Oil            1176 litres
Auto                 1207 litres
Kero                1245 litres
PU50               1350 litres

Total weight of load                 = 10000/1245 = 8.03

+   7500/1176 = 6.37

=14.40 tonnes (14400 kg)

This figure can then be compared with the legal payload for the specific vehicle that you may be on.

5.2       Bottom Loading (OIL)

5.2.1    When carrying out bottom loading the following procedure is to be followed:

  • Ensure vehicle has current Safe Loading Pass if applicable

Note:   Not all depots or terminals operate the same system.  If in doubt check!

5.3       Pre-loading (OIL)

5.3.1    There may be occasions when for economic or operational reasons, tanker vehicles may be required to be preloaded.  This is a management decision. Any vehicle that has been preloaded must be parked in a secure parking area within a depot or terminal.

5.3.2.   The vehicle load must agree with the loading note.

5.3.3    The vehicle must be correctly labelled and the load secure.

5.3.4    All grade labels must be correct for product grade, including hose reel.

5.3.5    Driver must check all loading notes for product grades and quantities before leaving depot.

5.4       Loading Limitations

5.4.1    Under NO circumstances must gas oil or kerosene be loaded on a vehicle containing motor spirit.

5.4.2    Vehicles containing motor spirit must return to terminal / depot for a least one buffer load of gas oil or road diesel before loading kerosene.
